Crkva svetog proroka Ilije u Mirijevu, Baroque church in Mirijevo district of Belgrade, Serbia.
The Church of the Prophet Elijah in Mirijevo is a baroque building with classical architectural elements including a barrel vault, triple-sided apse, and two choirs in the main space. The interior follows a traditional Orthodox layout with clear separation between the nave and altar area.
The church was built in 1833 under the approval of Prince Miloš Obrenović, with construction materials taken from the demolished Slanci monastery. This reuse of stone from a former monastery shows the continuity of religious traditions in the region.
The iconostasis was created between 1918 and 1919 and displays fourteen icons painted by Lazar Krdžalić. These religious images form an important focal point of the spiritual experience when visiting the church interior.
The church is open to visitors during regular liturgical services, with major celebrations on August 2nd for the feast day of Prophet Elijah. It is helpful to check ahead for opening times, as access depends on scheduled religious activities.
A distinctive mosaic of Saint Elijah created by artist Đuro Radlović adorns the space above the church entrance and immediately catches the eye. This modern artistic addition creates an appealing contrast with the classical baroque architecture of the facade.
