Church of the Theotokos of the Sign
Church of the Theotokos of the Sign, Orthodox cathedral in Kitay-gorod, Moscow, Russia
The cathedral features a boat-like structure with red walls, white decorative elements, and five domes arranged in a traditional Russian pattern.
Built between 1679 and 1684 on the former Romanov estate, the cathedral became part of the Znamensky Monastery established by Tsar Mikhail Romanov in 1631.
The cathedral holds religious services and contains the venerated Romanov family icon of the Mother of God of the Sign, transferred here during its foundation.
Located at 8-10 Varvarka Street, the cathedral functions both as an active Orthodox church and as part of the State Historical Museum's Romanov Chambers.
The cathedral's interior includes an upper church with diminishing coffered ceilings decorated with molded rosettes, installed in the late 18th century.
