Bogatyri / Sinyaya Balka, Archaeological site in Temryuksky District, Russia

Bogatyri is an archaeological site located on a rocky cape near Za Rodinu village, rising approximately 28 meters (92 feet) above the Azov Sea. The terrain reveals layered ancient soil and stone deposits that scientists have carefully excavated to study early human activity.

This site dates back approximately 1 to 1.5 million years, when prehistoric hunters inhabited this region. The remains include bones of southern mammoths and Caucasian rhinoceros, showing how early people coexisted with large animals.

This location is where local people connect with the deep past of their region. Visitors can sense the presence of early hunters who worked the land in this exact spot millions of years ago.

The site is best reached on foot from Za Rodinu village, where marked paths lead to the cape. Wear sturdy shoes and check with local museums about available guided tours and current site conditions before visiting.

A particularly striking discovery is a stone tool made of quartzite dolomite that is embedded in the skull of a Caucasian rhinoceros dating back 1.5 million years. This remarkable find shows a direct connection between early hunters and the massive animals they pursued.
