Jiji Camphor Tree

The Jiji Camphor Tree is an ancient specimen in Jiji Township, Nantou County, that rises to about 30 meters tall with a thick trunk marked by deep vertical cracks in its pale bark. The site includes designated viewing areas with benches around the perimeter and informational signs that explain the tree's characteristics.

The tree became known during Taiwan's Japanese colonial period from 1895 to 1945, when camphor extraction was important for making gunpowder and celluloid products. The local region played a significant role in this industry during that era.
