Uzh National Nature Park is a protected area in Zakarpattia Oblast featuring mountain terrain and forest landscapes. The park consists of ancient beech forests, alder communities, and high meadows that spread across the border region between Ukraine, Poland, and Slovakia.
The area saw military activity during both World Wars, leaving behind cemeteries and fortifications including remains of the strategic Arpad defense line. These traces show how deeply the region was affected by the conflicts.
The region preserves traditional wooden churches built in the 17th and 18th centuries that reflect how the local Lemko people expressed their faith and identity. These structures remain standing among the mountains and forests today.
The area has over a hundred kilometers of trails where you can trek, watch birds, or camp in different seasons. The best time to visit depends on what you want to experience, as each season offers different conditions and sights.
The area is the landing site of the Princess meteorite, Europe's largest discovered meteorite, which fell in 1866 near ancient oak trees. This rare find made the location notable in the scientific community.
