Jonathan Sturges House, Gothic Revival residence in Fairfield, United States.
The Jonathan Sturges House features steeply pitched gables, decorative bargeboards, and a single-story porch with segmented arch sections and latticework.
Built in 1840 by architect Joseph Collins Wells, the house underwent three major expansions resulting in 30 rooms and 11 staircases by 1895.
The property belonged to Jonathan Sturges, a New York City entrepreneur whose grandfather represented Fairfield in the Continental Congress during the Revolution.
Located at 449 Mill Plain Road, this National Historic Landmark maintains its original board-and-batten siding and incorporates an early combined water closet.
The residence contains hidden interior brick walls and sand between joists and subflooring, demonstrating innovative construction methods of the period.
