Prompton State Park

Prompton State Park is a state park in Wayne County featuring a large lake surrounded by forested hills and open spaces. The park offers trails for walking and biking, a lake for boating, and various spots for picnicking and outdoor recreation.

The park came into being following construction of Prompton Dam in 1960, which was built to protect the Lackawaxen River valley from flooding. This dam project shaped the landscape and led to the creation of the state park.

Local organizations coordinate outdoor activities throughout the year, including disc golf tournaments and seasonal sporting events at the designated facilities.

The park has multiple trails of varying difficulty suitable for walkers and cyclists who want to explore at their own pace. The lake allows small motorboats and the park provides spots for relaxing by the water or enjoying a meal outdoors.

A disc golf course sits at the dam entrance with 18 holes designed for players of different skill levels. This facility has become a popular spot where outdoor enthusiasts combine recreation with exploring the water's edge.
