Scott's Gulf

Scott's Gulf is a waterfall system on the Cumberland Plateau featuring multiple cascades flowing through limestone cliffs and surrounded by dense forest. The area consists of various plunge pools and rapids that have formed between natural rock formations.

The area was originally an important gathering point for Native peoples and later became significant for timber and mining operations. Water erosion over thousands of years has shaped the canyon formations and waterfall landscape visible today.

Local residents maintain traditions of hiking and exploring the falls, passing down knowledge of hidden pathways through generations.

Visitors should wear sturdy footwear and bring sufficient water as marked trails lead to different viewpoints throughout the area. Trails can be slippery, especially after rain, so slow movement and caution are necessary.

Water disappears into underground cave systems and sinkholes, forming a rare geological formation where streams flow beneath the surface. These hidden waterways create a complex connection through the limestone rock layers.
