Spirit Falls

Spirit Falls is a waterfall approximately 30 feet high located within the Jacobs Hill open space preserve, where water drops over a series of rock ledges. The site is accessible via marked trails that wind through the forested preserve.

The Trustees of Reservations took on management of the Jacobs Hill preserve to ensure public access to the natural area. This stewardship model emerged as a way to protect landscapes from private development.

The waterfall serves as a notable landmark along the Tully Trail, a long-distance walking route that connects visitors with the broader natural landscape of central Massachusetts. The trail draws people seeking to explore the region's forests and watersheds on foot.

Access to the falls is via marked trails within the Jacobs Hill preserve that are easy to navigate throughout the year. Water flow is typically strongest during spring months when snowmelt and rainfall increase the volume considerably.

The waterfall flows from Little Pond above it, a small lake whose changing water levels cause the cascade's appearance to shift noticeably from season to season. This natural variation means the falls look and feel different with each visit depending on when you go.
