The 45-foot waterfall creates a vertical drop into a circular gorge, with Falls Brook flowing continuously through granite rock formations.
The waterfall, previously named Forbes Falls after Calvin Forbes in the 1800s, became part of a 217-acre preserve in 1951.
The Trustees of Reservations maintain this natural landmark as part of their mission to protect significant Massachusetts landscapes for public enjoyment.
The waterfall requires a 1.3-mile round-trip hike from the parking area near Massachusetts Route 32, just south of the New Hampshire border.
A wooden shelter near the falls accommodates up to 12 people for overnight stays on a first-come basis at no cost.
