Webb Horton House

The Webb Horton House is a former mansion in Middletown with more than 40 rooms combining various architectural styles in stone and brick construction. The structure blends different design elements across its large residential layout.

Construction of the property took place between 1902 and 1906 under architect Frank Lindsey and reflected the building ambitions of industrial-era entrepreneurs. It received listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

The residence reflects early American architectural traditions and shows how industrial wealth was displayed in the early 1900s. Visitors can see this through the elaborate design choices made throughout the structure.

The building now houses administrative offices for the State University of New York at Orange campus. Access to interior spaces may be limited since the structure functions as an active university facility.

Webb Horton commissioned the mansion at age 76 but passed away in 1908 without ever spending a night in the completed building. This unusual outcome makes the property a curious detail in local history.
