Wandering Rocks, Steel sculpture in Lynden Sculpture Garden, Milwaukee, United States.
The sculpture consists of five geometric elements named Crocus, Shaft, Dud, Slide, and Smohawk, painted in semi-gloss black and measuring between 58 and 116 centimeters.
Tony Smith created Wandering Rocks in 1967 as part of a limited series of five editions plus one artist's proof, with this piece being the second edition.
The geometric arrangement of the five elements references molecular structures and incorporates design elements similar to the rock garden at Ryoan-ji temple.
Each steel element weighs between 164 and 337 kilograms, allowing for different spatial arrangements according to the exhibition location requirements.
The five elements function both as individual sculptures and as components of a larger work, with no predetermined spatial relationship between them.
