2 New York Plaza, Office skyscraper in Financial District, Manhattan, United States
2 New York Plaza is a 40-story office tower at the corner of Broad Street and New York Plaza in the Financial District at the southern tip of Manhattan. The building has a glass-clad exterior and sits within a tight cluster of commercial towers that define this part of downtown New York.
The building was completed in 1977, designed by architect Ely Jacques Kahn during a wave of commercial construction that reshaped Lower Manhattan in the postwar decades. Several towers from that era still stand in the area and give the Financial District much of its current character.
The Financial District around this tower follows a rhythm that shifts sharply between busy weekday mornings and near-empty weekends. Street level around the building is lined with coffee shops and lunch spots that cater almost entirely to office workers.
The tower is within walking distance of the Broad Street and Wall Street subway stations, making it easy to reach from most parts of the city. The surrounding streets are most crowded on weekday mornings and evenings, so visiting outside those windows makes moving around much easier.
The site sits at the point where Broad Street was once an actual water canal used for trade in colonial New York. The street still follows the path of that canal, which was filled in during the 18th century.
