Bridge Canyon Wilderness

Bridge Canyon Wilderness is a protected area in the Newberry Mountains with roughly 7,761 acres of rocky terrain and steep canyons. Granite boulders dot the landscape, and elevations climb to around 5,600 feet above sea level.

Native peoples hunted and gathered in this region for generations, leaving behind petroglyphs carved into canyon walls. These rock markings testify to the long history of human presence in this desert area.

Raptors and desert bighorn sheep roam these canyons and mountain slopes as part of the local ecosystem. The landscape reflects the balance between wildlife and the harsh desert environment that visitors encounter here.

High-clearance vehicles are needed to navigate the unpaved roads leading to entry points. Bring plenty of water and sun protection, as shade and water sources are scarce in the desert environment.

Hidden springs feed Grapevine Wash and Sacatone Wash, creating surprising green corridors with cottonwood trees and vines in the dry landscape. These water sources support plant communities that seem out of place in the surrounding desert.
