Dr. Nelson Wilson House
Dr. Nelson Wilson House, Queen Anne style residence in Washington, Indiana, United States
The Dr. Nelson Wilson House is a single-family residence in Washington, Indiana, constructed with brick and limestone walls featuring decorative patterns and architectural details. The structure combines Queen Anne and Eastlake stylistic elements throughout its design.
The house was designed in 1896 by architect John W. Gaddis as a residence for Dr. Nelson Wilson, a local dentist. It gained recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in June 2008.
The house displays Masonic Cross patterns on its side porches, reflecting the Freemasonry connections of the Wilson family and architect Gaddis.
The residence is located at 103 E. National Highway and can be viewed from the street as a private home. Visitors should expect limited or no interior access since it remains a private residence.
While traditional Eastlake architecture typically uses wooden stickwork for decorative elements, this house creates its ornamental details using brick patterns instead. This makes it an unusual example of creative use of local building materials.
