Vincennes Fortnightly Club, historic Women's club clubhouse located at Vincennes, Knox County, Indiana
The Vincennes Fortnightly Club is a two-story brick and limestone clubhouse built in 1928 in Vincennes, Indiana, featuring Colonial Revival architecture with symmetrical arched openings and a metal balcony. The building has a dumbbell-shaped layout with a reception area, meeting rooms, and an auditorium capable of seating around 420 people.
The Vincennes Fortnightly Club was founded in 1890 as women gathered for regular meetings, and acquired its first dedicated building in 1915. The current clubhouse was built in 1928 by architects Sutton and Routt and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.
The club served as a gathering place where women could meet, share knowledge, and work on community issues together. Its fortnightly meetings remain a symbol of how women's organizations shaped the social and civic life of Vincennes.
The clubhouse is located in central Vincennes on North Sixth Street and is easily accessible by local roads. Visitors can tour the building and attend community events held regularly throughout the year.
The building features an unusual dumbbell-shaped floor plan specifically designed to connect the reception area, large auditorium, and stage space in an efficient layout. This distinctive design allowed the club to support diverse events and activities under one roof.
