Standard Oil Company Filling Station

The Standard Oil Company Filling Station on College Street is an Early Commercial building originally built to serve drivers needing fuel. The structure has a straightforward design and sits on a small lot adjacent to Circus Square Park.

The building opened in 1921 for Standard Oil of Kentucky and served drivers for more than 30 years before closing in 1956. After shutting down, it stood unused as a fuel station for many years before being restored in recent times.

The station reflects how early motorists refueled their vehicles and shows the daily driving habits of that era. You can see in the building's layout and details how it was designed to serve those practical needs.

The site is now open to the public and offers visitor restrooms while you explore the nearby park. It sits in a convenient downtown location and is easy to reach on foot from the surrounding area.

During restoration, replica Red Crown pump globes were installed to recreate the original look from when it first opened. These distinctive globes were among the most recognizable symbols at gas stations during that era.
