Camp Walt Whitman, Summer camp on Lake Armington in Piermont, United States.
Camp Walt Whitman is a residential summer facility spanning 300 acres beside Lake Armington with multiple structures for children. The property includes a heated pool, indoor sports pavilion, ropes course, gymnastics building, three art studios, and technology tent.
The camp began in 1948 when Arnie and Chick Soloway opened it as a family venture. It has remained under family management ever since, now operated by Carolyn and Jed Dorfman.
The camp hosts activities like tennis, golf, archery, gymnastics, pottery, hiking, and sailing that bring children together daily. Participants spend their time learning practical skills and building friendships through shared experiences.
The camp operates for seven weeks during summer and serves children from the New York metropolitan area. On-site accommodations are available so families can enroll their children for the full duration of the program.
The camp sits nestled in the White Mountains surrounded by birch, maple, and pine trees that create a wooded setting. What stands out is that 85 to 90 percent of participants return year after year.
