Larry Monroe Forever Bridge, Road bridge with mosaic art in Travis Heights, Austin, United States
The Larry Monroe Forever Bridge is a road bridge in Austin decorated with mosaic artwork on its side walls. The design features music motifs, radio symbols, and ceramic portraits along East Side Drive.
The bridge is named after radio broadcaster Larry Monroe, who passed away in 2014 and championed local musicians. Artist Stefanie Distefano led the redesign project with support from over 100 volunteers.
The walls display music notation and tiles depicting Texas musicians, reflecting the local scene's importance to the community. This creates a public space that honors where performers and their fans come together.
The bridge is located along East Side Drive and connects two nearby parks. You can examine the detailed tilework at your own pace, though you should stay aware of vehicle traffic in the area.
A 22-foot section of the mosaic features musical notation from Townes Van Zandt's song 'To Live Is to Fly'. This honors a significant figure in Texas songwriting tradition.
