Jersey City Armory

The Jersey City Armory is a military and community building in Jersey City spanning three floors with approximately 175,000 square feet of space. The structure features a granite base, brick walls, and terra cotta decorative panels displaying military insignia.

The facility was built in 1937 by the Works Progress Administration as a National Guard installation to replace the Fourth Regiment Armory that burned down in 1927. This was part of a major construction program during the economic depression of the 1930s.

The building now functions as a venue for sports and art exhibitions, playing an important role in the city's cultural life. Visitors experience boxing matches, basketball games, and the state's largest visual arts fair, bringing different communities together.

The location sits on Montgomery Street and features modern sports facilities with a running track, basketball court, and contemporary lighting systems. Visitors find good conditions here for various types of events and activities.

The building hosted a charity boxing match in 1972 with Muhammad Ali alongside New Jersey's governor and Jersey City's mayor. This rare event highlighted its importance as a venue for major public moments in the region.
