San Jacinto Street Bridge over Buffalo Bayou, Historic road bridge in Downtown Houston, United States.

The San Jacinto Street Bridge extends 325 feet across Buffalo Bayou with a fifty-foot roadbed and ten-foot cantilevered sidewalks on both sides.

Built in 1914 to replace an iron pivot bridge from 1883, this structure connected downtown Houston with the growing industrial Fifth Ward neighborhood.

The bridge design incorporated principles of reinforced concrete construction while following aesthetic guidelines influenced by the City Beautiful movement of the early 1900s.

The rehabilitation project in 1997 updated the bridge decking with new reinforced concrete while maintaining the original open spandrel arch structure.

Twenty-foot pilings support the bridge's distinctive barrel arch ring design, created by William P. Carmichael Company of St. Louis under E. E. Sands' direction.
