Kennedy Bakery, Historic bakery building in downtown Houston, US
The Kennedy Bakery features a two-story brick structure with wooden sash windows and pilasters flanking the central entry at 813 Congress Street.
John Kennedy, an Irish immigrant baker, established his business in 1842 and constructed this building in 1860 after a fire destroyed the original wooden structure.
The building served multiple functions throughout its existence, including as a trading post, stage stop, coffeehouse, and currently houses the La Carafe Bar.
Located in the Main Street Market Square Historic District, the Kennedy Bakery building faces Market Square and stands as a National Register of Historic Places site.
This structure maintains its position as the oldest commercial building in Houston, remaining on its original site since its construction in 1860.
