Plaza Bolívar de Calabozo, Central plaza in Calabozo, Venezuela.
Plaza Bolívar de Calabozo is a central open space occupying one full block in the city center, surrounded by an iron perimeter fence. The square features decorative lampposts, concrete benches, and pathways made of terra cotta material.
The square was created in 1918 after the cemetery was relocated from shared land that had previously included the city cathedral. This change made space for both the new plaza and the development of vehicular avenues in the area.
The plaza serves as the main venue for municipal ceremonies and public gatherings in Calabozo. The equestrian statue of Simón Bolívar at its center marks this space as a place where locals come together for important occasions.
The square offers multiple seating areas with shaded spaces, making it a good place to rest while exploring the city center. From this location, you can easily find nearby shops, restaurants, and religious buildings in the surrounding area.
This square is one of only three plazas in Venezuela that are completely enclosed by an iron perimeter fence. The other two are located in Caracas and Coro, making this fenced design a rare feature across the country.
