Hato Piñero, Cultural property in Cojedes, Venezuela.
Hato Piñero is a large nature reserve in the Llanos region that encompasses wetlands, plateaus, gallery forests, and rolling hills. Four rivers border the property and create distinct water features across the landscape.
The property originated as a colonial-era farm and passed through several owners before the Branger family acquired it in the 1950s. They began converting it into a conservation area with research facilities.
The name comes from piñeiro willow trees that grow throughout the gallery forests on the property. Visitors encounter the working relationship between cattle ranching and nature conservation that shapes daily life here.
Basic double rooms with private bathrooms accommodate up to 25 visitors at a time. It is best to arrange your visit in advance and ask about the ideal season for wildlife observation.
The property houses a significant herbarium collection of 850 plant species representing much of the flora found in Cojedes state. This collection grew from decades of fieldwork and botanical research on the reserve.
