Museo Casa de los Celis, Colonial museum in Valencia, Venezuela.
The Museo Casa de los Celis occupies a colonial-era building featuring thick walls, tall windows, and two internal gardens in Valencia's Historic Center. The rooms contain art collections and displays of archaeological objects arranged throughout the structure.
Colonel Pedro Celis purchased the property in 1839 and undertook major renovations to create an expanded residence with additional rooms and interior courtyards. This transformation shaped the building into the structure visitors see today.
The museum displays paintings and sculptures by Venezuelan artists Antonio Herrera Toro and Andrés Pérez Mujica, reflecting the artistic traditions of the region. Religious artwork in the collection shows how faith shaped creative expression in colonial times.
The museum is open on weekdays with morning hours, while weekend visiting times are more limited. Plan your arrival in advance since the hours are quite restricted.
A dedicated section displays prehistoric remains including mammoth and ground sloth fossils that roamed the region thousands of years ago. These archaeological findings were collected and documented through the research of Enriqueta Peñalver.
