Sistema de riego del río Guárico

The Guárico River irrigation system consists of 210 concrete and soil channels that transport water from the Guárico dam to agricultural parcels across the region.

The irrigation system was constructed in 1957 under President Marcos Pérez Jiménez administration, with initial plans to irrigate 110,000 hectares of agricultural land.

The system supports 1,200 farming families who manage different sized parcels ranging from 1 to 45 hectares, forming the agricultural backbone of the region.

Within the irrigation area, 254 wells operate with an average discharge capacity of 62.52 liters per second, covering various surfaces during different seasons.

This irrigation network generates half of Venezuela's rice production through its extensive system of channels, which span approximately 60,000 hectares.
