Rollways Campground and Day Use Area

Rollways is a campground with 19 pull-through sites located along the Au Sable River within Huron National Forest. The facility offers picnic tables, grills, fire rings at each site, and broad open areas for day visitors.

The site was established in 1909 as one of Michigan's early public camping facilities. Its creation helped build outdoor recreation infrastructure that became important for the region during the 20th century.

The area draws people who enjoy fishing, hiking, and gathering around fire rings in a outdoor setting. Daily activities here reflect how locals and visitors spend time together in nature, using shared spaces for recreation and relaxation.

The site opens from mid-May through Labor Day and provides direct access to the Au Sable River. Visitors should know the sites offer basic facilities and checking seasonal conditions or river information before arriving is wise.

A trail system connects the campground directly to Westgate Scenic Overlook, where visitors find elevated views across the surrounding forest. This short walk is often missed but offers a vantage point that differs from the lower riverside areas.
