Bismarck Tower, Memorial tower in Aachen, Germany
Bismarck Tower is a 27-meter stone monument located in the Burtscheid district forest near the cemetery. The structure features a semicircular terrace with two access staircases leading to the central tower.
The tower was inaugurated in 1907 to commemorate Otto von Bismarck, who served as a legal clerk in Aachen between 1836 and 1837. His brief time in the city left a lasting impression on local history.
The tower was initiated by students from the local technical university as a community fundraising project. These young people gathered donations and worked together to build this memorial on their own initiative.
The tower is accessible through the wooded cemetery area, and visitors should wear sturdy footwear since the staircases can be steep and slippery. The natural surroundings mean the path may be uneven or muddy depending on recent weather.
The building's design follows the shape of a large letter B, featuring three portrait busts of prominent Prussian military leaders inside. This distinctive layout gives the monument a memorable visual character that few visitors expect to find.
