Sanctuary of Our Lady of Regla

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Regla is a three-nave structure with a presbytery and a tower completed in 1909 in Neo-Gothic style. The building displays the characteristic features of this architectural movement with pointed arches and elaborate details.

In 1399, Pedro III Ponce de León donated his fortress to the Augustinian order, which later transformed it into the current sanctuary. This conversion from military fortress to religious building marked a new chapter for the site.

The courtyard displays a blend of Gothic and Moorish architectural styles with a 15th-century well and floor tiles decorated with animals and heraldic symbols. This space reflects the layered history of the site.

The sanctuary is open to visitors daily and allows access to its interior spaces. It is best to check opening times beforehand and dress respectfully, as it is an active place of worship.

The shrine room contains Neo-Baroque frescoes depicting miracles alongside decorative elements such as damask walls and Japanese vases. This unusual combination of artworks reflects the layered decorative choices made over time.
