St. Stephen's Mausoleum, Memorial museum in Székesfehérvár, Hungary

The St. Stephen's Mausoleum contains an 11th-century marble sarcophagus decorated with cherubs, rosettes, and flowers, with an angel sculpture on one side.

Built in 1938 behind the ruins of the Basilica of the Assumption, the mausoleum commemorates Stephen I, the first king of Hungary who ruled from 1000 to 1038.

The interior walls feature frescoes by Vilmos Aba-Novák depicting the Holy Crown of Hungary and a procession of Hungarian rulers through different historical periods.

Visitors can explore the archaeological collection at the connected King St. Stephen Museum, which displays artifacts from the Neolithic period through Ottoman times.

During the Communist era, the frescoes were covered with white paint, which unexpectedly helped preserve the original artwork until its restoration in 1996.
