Govindgarh Palace

Govindgarh Palace, Royal palace in Govindgarh, Madhya Pradesh, India

Govindgarh Palace is a royal residence situated on the shores of Govindgarh Lake in Madhya Pradesh, consisting of multiple interconnected buildings. The structures blend Rajputana architectural traditions with European design elements throughout the complex.

Raja Raghuraj Singh initiated construction of this palace in 1853 as the principal residence for the rulers of Rewa and Govindgarh. The building represents an important chapter in royal architecture during that era.

Several temples stand within the palace grounds, including Chowandi, Hanuman, and Ram Govind Temple, serving as active places of worship for visitors and locals. These spaces show how spiritual life remains woven into the daily rhythm of the site.

The palace sits approximately 25 kilometers from Rewa Bus Stand and opens daily from 10 AM to 5:30 PM without entrance fees. Visitors should plan accordingly for the distance and allow time to explore the multiple buildings on site.

The palace gained recognition for housing Mohan, India's first white tiger, a discovery that marked a turning point in the country's wildlife conservation. This remarkable animal lived here and attracted considerable attention from researchers and visitors.
