Museo provinciale della ceramica

The Provincial Ceramic Museum sits within the Belvedere Tower of Villa Guariglia, displaying pottery and decorative tiles across multiple levels spanning different historical periods. The layout follows a chronological order, showing religious objects, household ceramics, and regionally influenced works from different eras.

Ambassador Raffaele Guariglia donated the Villa Guariglia to Salerno Province in 1970, and the museum opened within its Belvedere Tower in 1981. This gift made it possible to transform a private collection into a public institution.

The collection shows how ceramics served different purposes across centuries, from religious objects to everyday household items people actually used. You can observe how local artisans adapted their techniques and how outside influences shaped what they made.

The museum is within walking distance of the town center and easy to find, with free admission and regular daytime hours from Tuesday through Sunday. Spring and fall are the best times to visit when crowds are lighter than during summer holidays.

The museum holds a specialized section devoted to riggiole, traditional Campanian ceramic tiles once used for decorating walls and floors in homes throughout the region. These tiles demonstrate how everyday functional items became genuine expressions of local artistry.
