Convento di San Nicola della Palma, Medieval convent in Canalone district, Salerno, Italy.

Convento di San Nicola della Palma is a medieval monastery with four floors containing spaces arranged for monastic life and work. The structure incorporates architectural elements from various periods, reflecting how the building evolved and adapted over centuries.

The convent was founded in 1061 when local authorities granted land and residence for its establishment. In the early 15th century it became a Franciscan community, growing into a major center for the order in the region.

The name comes from its proximity to the Porta della Palma city gate, near which the complex was built. Visitors can observe how the layout reflects the way monks organized their daily routines and communal spaces.

Access is provided via a street route leading to the building, and the layout allows visitors to move through its different levels. Expect to use stairs to navigate between floors and discover the various sections of the complex.

Inside the complex, a medieval bath system with multiple chambers was discovered, including a sauna carved directly into the rock. These remains show that the monks possessed remarkable engineering skills and knowledge about water management.
