The Chernihiv Museum of Ukrainian Antiquities displays 230,000 artifacts representing material and spiritual culture within the V. Tarnovskyi House Museum building.
Founded in 1902 through the Chernihiv provincial zemstvo council, the museum operated independently until 1925 when it merged with other institutions to form the Chernihiv State Museum.
The museum collection includes 758 Shevchenko-related exhibits, featuring original letters, autographs, personal items, and numerous artworks from the celebrated Ukrainian poet.
The museum building stands at Shevchenko Street 63 in Chernihiv, with regular transportation connections available from Krasna Square and the main railway station.
Among its extraordinary items, the museum preserved Taras Shevchenko's personal belongings, including his painting equipment, chair, death mask, and a preserved lock of hair.
