Парк природе Сићевачка клисура

Sićevo Gorge Nature Park is a protected area along the Nišava River carved through limestone with towering cliff walls on both sides. The landscape extends across multiple kilometers combining dramatic rock formations with forested areas and river valleys.

The gorge lay along the Via Militaris, a Roman military route that passed through the region roughly 2000 years ago. Medieval Orthodox monasteries were later built in the area, establishing it as a place of religious significance.

The villages within the gorge preserve traditional Serbian craftsmanship and local wine production passed down through families. Visitors can observe how residents work the terraced slopes and maintain a way of life closely tied to the land.

The park features marked hiking trails of varying difficulty and climbing areas suitable for different skill levels. Spring and autumn offer the best conditions for visiting when weather is mild and trails are in good condition.

The gorge shelters golden eagles and rare plant species found nowhere else, including two endemic Ramonda varieties thriving only here. These botanical rarities make the location noteworthy for nature enthusiasts and botanists.
