Basílica del Corazón de María, Antofagasta

The basilica features twin bell towers reaching 35 meters high, a central nave of 18 meters, and a copper sculpture of Virgin Mary atop its dome.

The Claretian missionaries established the first wooden church in 1903, which burned down in 1912, leading to the construction of the current structure from 1913 to 1928.

The basilica represents the Catholic heritage of northern Chile through its architectural combination of Gothic Revival and Byzantine elements in its structure and decorations.

Located on Lord Cochrane Street between Copiapó and 21 de Mayo, the basilica welcomes visitors to explore its 50-meter-long rectangular structure and ornate interior design.

The dome rises 45 meters above the presbytery, crowned by a 5-meter copper statue of the Virgin Mary installed in 1997 after an earthquake damaged the previous figure.
