St. Joseph's Cathedral, Antofagasta

The cathedral features pointed arches, towering spires, and elaborate stained glass windows that illuminate the central nave of the building.

Architect Emile Doyer designed this religious structure to replace an earlier wooden church that burned down in 1880, completing construction in 1917.

The cathedral functions as the primary church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Antofagasta, which serves over 250,000 Catholics in northern Chile.

Located opposite Colon Square along San Martin Street, the cathedral opens daily for visitors and holds regular Catholic services throughout the week.

The building's steel triangle bell system from the original 1872 structure remains preserved within the cathedral as a testament to its origins.
