Holy Trinity Monument, Timişoara, Baroque religious monument in Union Square, Timisoara, Romania
The Holy Trinity Monument is a Baroque religious structure on Union Square in Timișoara. It features a triangular column with statues of saints including Sebastian, Roch, and Charles Borromeo positioned at its base.
The monument was created between 1739 and 1740 by sculptor Georg Raphael Donner as a tribute to the end of plague in Timișoara. In 1755, Empress Maria Theresa had it moved from its original location near Deschan Palace to its current position on the square.
The monument displays three reliefs depicting hardships from the Banat region's past. The Holy Trinity and Virgin Mary crown the top, making them the focal point that draws the eye upward from the square.
The monument sits in central Timișoara on Union Square and is easy to reach on foot. The square itself is well-developed and offers a natural gathering spot near other nearby attractions.
The monument was originally built in a different location and later relocated to where it stands today, a move that transformed the square's appearance. This relocation made it one of the most striking Baroque works in the city.
