House of Eugene de Savoy, Timișoara

The House of Eugene de Savoy at 24 Eugeniu de Savoya Street displays classical architecture with geometric decorations across its U-shaped structure. The building features a symmetrical corridor with a staircase connecting the upper and ground floors.

The house was built in 1817 using bricks from the demolished Forforosa Gate, marking the spot where Prince Eugene entered Timișoara in October 1716. The structure thus arose long after the historical visit, but reused materials from an earlier city fortification.

The building displays a medallion at its entrance showing the former Forforosa Gate, with the original artwork now housed in the National Museum of Banat. This detail on the facade tells the story of the city's architectural transformations over time.

The building is accessed from Eugeniu de Savoya Street, where its classical facade is plainly visible. The symmetrical layout makes it easy to find your way through the interior spaces.

Despite bearing the prince's name, the house was built 81 years after his death and later served as a commerce bureau and vegetable shop. This commercial use was part of everyday city life, far from its role today as a historical monument.
