Cime de Castel Vieil

Cime de Castel Vieil is a mountain summit near Roquebillière that rises to 1306 meters and offers expansive views across the Vésubie Valley and surrounding ridges. The peak stands on the border between lower valleys and higher alpine terrain, making it a natural observation point for the landscape.

The summit served historically as an important landmark for shepherds making seasonal journeys with their flocks between valley pastures and alpine meadows. The ancient routes established for these migrations remain important pathways in the region today.

The summit forms part of the grand randonnée network, marked by traditional red and white blazes that characterize French long-distance hiking trails.

Two marked hiking trails lead from the village to the summit, each with different difficulty levels and duration. Wear sturdy footwear and prepare for changing weather conditions at higher elevation.

The hiking paths maintain a consistent slope exceeding 30 percent, making them particularly suitable for maintaining steady climbing rhythm throughout the ascent.
