Pointe du Frou, Mountain summit and viewpoint in Chartreuse Regional Nature Park, France.
Pointe du Frou is a summit in the Chartreuse mountain range at 1185 meters, with views over the Guiers valley. A four-kilometer forest trail leads through the landscape and reveals the valley and surrounding terrain below.
The summit is a geological formation shaped by Alpine tectonic activity during the Quaternary period. These mountains have defined the region for millions of years and offer insight into how the landscape formed.
Shepherds have long grazed their flocks on the meadows here, shaping how the land looks and feels over time. This pastoral tradition remains visible in how the landscape is managed and directly supports local cheese-making.
You can reach this summit by following a marked trail from the La Ruchère Nordic site, with about 100 meters of elevation gain. The path is walkable with normal fitness and works well for people wanting a short to medium hike.
This summit is particularly rewarding to visit in winter, accessible from December through March when snow covers the forest and meadows. The mix of forested and open sections creates different experiences depending on the season.
