Plage du Grand Capo, Sandy beach in Gulf of Ajaccio, France

Plage du Grand Capo is a sandy beach stretching about one kilometer along the Minaccia cove near Ajaccio. The shore faces the Sanguinaires Islands across the water, with clear views toward the open Mediterranean.

The beach sits beside the Customs Officers' Trail, a path created in the 18th century to monitor maritime activity during French rule. This route reveals how the coastline played a key role in controlling sea trade and navigation.

Locals use this beach for traditional games like pétanque and seasonal fishing activities. You can see how the community gathers here, especially during warmer months when the water is calm.

The beach is about a fifteen-minute drive from Ajaccio town center via Route des Sanguinaires, turning right onto D111B. Walking is easiest during daylight hours, and summer months bring the most comfortable water and weather conditions.

The beach divides into two distinct sections: the main Grand Capo area and the smaller Sevani section, separated by a natural field between them. This split creates two different environments on the same shoreline.
