Fort IV

Fort IV is a multi-level fortification in Toruń that conceals an underground network of passages and chambers beneath its surface. The red brick structure sits within a wide grass-covered area bounded by a defensive moat, combining original military spaces with modern facilities including dining areas and exhibition rooms.

The fortress was built between 1878 and 1884 as part of a defensive system and served a defensive role during World War I and World War II. After the war, it was preserved and later transformed into a museum and restaurant to make its past accessible to visitors.

The fort blends military history with contemporary use, as visitors see both the original defensive structures and how the space now functions as a restaurant and event venue. The building tells its past through its layout while remaining actively woven into local life.
