Cobbold Gorge Village
Cobbold Gorge Village is a tourist destination in remote North Queensland, centered around a narrow sandstone gorge with rock walls rising about 30 meters (100 feet) and a permanent waterway running through it. The site features modern rooms, cabins, and camping areas alongside recreational facilities including an infinity pool, restaurant, bar, and various water activities like kayaking and paddleboarding.
The Ewamian People have inhabited and shaped this region for generations, maintaining a deep connection to the land and its features. The gorge itself developed over millennia through natural erosion, carving through red sandstone formations to create the landscape visitors see today.
The land is home to the Ewamian People, whose cultural connection to this country runs deep through generations of living here. Visitors are welcomed to learn about and respect their traditions and stories during their time at the site.
Plan your visit between April and October when the weather is cooler and better suited for outdoor activities and exploration. Check road conditions before traveling, as access is limited during the wet season from November to March when dirt tracks can become difficult to navigate due to mud or flooding.
A standout feature is Australia's first glass bridge, a transparent walkway that spans a deep gap and offers visitors an unobstructed view straight down beneath their feet as they cross. This rare addition transforms the gorge walk into an unusually thrilling experience.
