Museum of Fine Arts, Art museum in Zugló, Hungary
The Museum of Fine Arts is an art museum in Budapest's Zugló district displaying European works from ancient times through the twentieth century. It contains Egyptian artifacts, classical antiquities, Old Masters paintings, sculptures, contemporary art, and graphic collections across different sections.
The building was constructed between 1900 and 1906 by architects Albert Schickedanz and Fülöp Ferenc Herzog in neoclassical style. A later renovation expanded the Roman Hall section while restoring original decorative architectural elements from the opening period.
The building houses collections spanning from ancient civilizations to modern times, reflecting how artistic traditions developed across different periods. Visitors encounter works that show the evolution of European creativity and craftsmanship through distinct eras.
The museum offers guided tours in multiple languages and digital audio guides to help navigate the collections. Special programs and activities for children are available throughout the permanent and temporary exhibitions.
The expansion of the Roman Hall added thousands of square meters of exhibition space while uncovering original decorative details that had been hidden. This restoration work revealed the building's architectural craftsmanship from its opening decades.
