Babocsay-villa

Babocsay-villa is a residential house from the early 1900s in Budapest with balanced proportions and clean lines. The building displays features typical of Hungarian architecture from that time.

The house was designed and built in 1905 under architect Aladár Árkay's direction. Decades later, it was repurposed to serve as an embassy building.

The building shows how Hungarian designers blended local building traditions with new styles arriving from Western Europe at the start of the 1900s. You can see this mix in the way the rooms flow and in how the exterior is shaped.

The building is located in Pest and is easy to reach by public transport, with several bus and tram stops nearby. The area is well signposted and visitors can explore the neighborhood on foot without difficulty.

This was the last home Árkay designed before turning his attention entirely to church buildings. After this project, the architect devoted himself completely to religious structures.
