Tung Po Kitchen
Tung Po Kitchen is a Cantonese restaurant in Wan Chai that serves traditional dishes and seafood. The space is open and bright, with large tables where visitors share meals and drink beer from bowls that waitresses constantly refill.
The restaurant began at a food center on Java Road and grew popular over many years. After a temporary closure in 2022 due to licensing issues, it reopened at its new location in Wan Chai.
Tung Po reflects a key part of Hong Kong's eating culture, where Dai Pai Dong stalls are gathering places for shared meals and conversation. People sit at large tables, share dishes, and enjoy drinks together, showing how food connects friends and family.
The restaurant is on the second floor of the KONNECT building on Jaffe Road, a short walk from Wan Chai MTR station. Visitors should expect it to be crowded, especially at meal times, with the most energy in the evenings.
After 9 p.m., owner Robby often appears wearing a silver mohawk and entertains guests with dancing, singing, and acrobatic moves. This surprising performance transforms a meal into an unforgettable experience beyond just the food.
