Wan Chai Pier, pier in Hong Kong
Wan Chai Pier is a ferry terminal on the northern waterfront of Hong Kong Island, in the Wan Chai district, serving routes to nearby islands and coastal destinations. It sits at the edge of the harbor and has several boarding areas for different ferry operators.
The pier was built in the latter half of the 20th century as Wan Chai's waterfront expanded through land reclamation projects. Those reclamation works significantly pushed the shoreline further into the harbor, shaping the area as it looks today.
The pier is within walking distance of Wan Chai MTR station and is also served by several bus lines. On weekends and public holidays, it tends to get busier, so arriving a few minutes early is a good idea.
Because of the land reclamation that reshaped this part of Hong Kong over decades, the pier now stands on ground that was once open water. This means that looking out toward the harbor from here, visitors are seeing a coastline that did not exist a few generations ago.
