China Online Centre, Commercial skyscraper in Central, Hong Kong
China Online Centre is a commercial skyscraper in Central with 52 floors rising 215 meters above street level. The glass and steel exterior creates a reflective surface that shifts in appearance throughout the day depending on the angle of sunlight.
The building opened in 2000 and represented Hong Kong's shift toward modern commercial architecture for the technology sector. Its construction reflected the city's growing importance as a financial and digital commerce hub at the start of the new millennium.
The structure demonstrates Hong Kong's evolution into a technology hub, incorporating design elements that reflect the intersection of digital commerce and architecture.
The tower sits close to subway stations and is easily accessible on foot from the street. Most of the interior space is reserved for company offices, so public access is typically limited to lobbies and ground-floor areas.
Architect Rocco Yim designed the tower with intentional angular forms that create different visual impressions from various viewpoints across the city. This design approach means the facade appears to shift and change depending on where you stand when looking at it.
