Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park

The 70-acre state park features a reconstructed Fort Watauga, visitor center, amphitheater, and walking trails along the Watauga River.

In 1775, Richard Henderson and Daniel Boone negotiated the Treaty of Sycamore Shoals with Cherokee leaders, leading to settlement expansion in Tennessee and Kentucky.

The park's 450-seat amphitheater presents 'Liberty: The Saga of Sycamore Shoals,' telling stories of early American frontier settlement through outdoor performances.

Visitors can explore exhibits at the interpretive center, participate in guided tours, watch historical reenactments, and enjoy fishing along designated riverbank areas.

The park contains a Treetop tree grown from seeds that traveled to space during the Apollo 14 mission, planted on the grounds in April 1976.
